Cruise aboard the romantic Tall Ship Star Flyer to the glamorous and picturesque islands of Corsica and Sardinia, Giglio and Lerici on the Italian mainland and the rich man's playground of St Tropez.

St Tropez

From Cannes or Monte Carlo, Star Flyer sails the length of Corsica, beginning in the city of Calvi, where the Genoese citadel, thought to be the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, stands tall above the harbour. Homer's Odyssey mentions the spectacular cliffs of Bonifacio, another grand citadel with views of the Lavezzi Islands, and a town buzzing with lively cafés and shops.

Calvi Grotto, Corsica

Sardinia's Costa Smerelda was discovered by the Aga Khan in the early 1960s. The rocky indents of the coast, the profusion of blossoms and bougainvillea and long, white sands make this the perfect holiday destination. On to the little island of Giglio to take a step back in time in quaint fishing villages and a medieval hill-top town before a call at mainland Lerici on Poet's Gulf, a romantic and picturesque town much-loved by Byron and the Shelleys. Ending on a high-note, enjoy the glitz, glamour and natural beauty of St Tropez.

Lerici, Italy

Tall Ship cruise from Monte Carlo or Cannes to Corsica, Sardinia and the French Riviera
Day 1
Monte Carlo (Monaco)

Embark Star Flyer in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Day 2
Calvi (Corsica)

The 13th century fortress citadel of Calvi is a compact area of narrow cobbled streets, overlooked by the Cathedral Saint Jean-Baptiste. Down below is the palm-fringed harbour and main town, with a promenade and bustling cafés. To explore along the coast, take the train towards I'lle Rousse, stopping at one of the pretty beaches en route.

Day 3
Figari Beach (Corsica) - Bonifacio (Corsica)

After a relaxing call at Figari Beach, Star Flyer arrives in the citadel city of Bonifacio, a spectacular sight from the sea. From the port, perhaps take a boat to see the grottos and caves along the coast, or take the train up to this cliff-top town and enjoy the views from the Haut Ville.

Day 4
Costa Smeralda (Sardinia)

This long stretch of coastline comprising eighty sand beaches, is one of the most beautiful regions of Sardinia. The area was developed sympathetically by the Aga Khan in the 1960s and has been a favourite haunt of the well-heeled ever since. Across the sea is La Maddalena archipelago, a national park rich in wildlife, with shops and restaurants in the island town.

Day 5
Giglio (Italy)

Giglio is a small island in the Tuscan Archipelago. It has many beaches and hidden coves, and three picturesque towns. Giglio Porto has charming coloured houses and glamorous boutiques, and up the hill is the walled town of Giglio Castello. Walkers will see plentiful bird and wildlife, chestnut trees and Aleppo pines.

Day 6
Lerici (Italy) (Optional Tour to Florence)

It was in the Villa Magni near Lerici that Percy Bysshe Shelley lived before sailing his small boat on its fatal voyage on July 8, 1822. The town has a splendid castle, grand villas and gardens. There are excellent restaurants in the town; perhaps try the local dish of spaghetti à la Lericina, or take the ferry to the Cinque Terre town of Portovenere.

Day 7
St Tropez (France)

The playground of the rich, glamorous and famous, St Tropez was a 15th-century military stronghold and a small fishing village in its former life. Small-town charm can still be found in its narrow lanes and the Provencal market. Browse the swish boutiques, take the lovely coastal path into the hills or sip coffee and people-watch.

Day 8
Cannes (France) or Monte Carlo (Monaco)

Disembark Star Flyer in Cannes or Monte Carlo.

This cruise begins and ends in either Monaco or Cannes, depending on the departure date. The Captain reserves the right to alter the itinerary to suit wind and weather conditions.
