Tall Ship Cruise to Turkey and the Southern Cyclades

7-night cruise from Athens to Turkey and the Greek Islands of the Southern Cyclades aboard the Tall Ship, Star Clipper

This fascinating cruise from Athens to Turkey visits the lovely coastal regions of Bodrum and the Dalyan River, Santorini, and the scenic and unspoilt islands of Milos and Hydra.

Lycian Tombs, Dalyan

Even though the Bodrum Peninsula and the Dalyan River are now on the tourist map, they remain unspoilt, with rich wildlife habitats and stunning natural beauty. The tideless sea around Bodrum is clear and inviting, and along the shores of the twisting Dalyan River are the ruins of ancient Caunos.

Turkish coast at Dalyan

After visiting the dramatic volcanic island of Santorini, Star Clipper sails to Milos, the "Island of Colours" where interesting rock formations have created secluded beaches, and hot springs and wild flowers dot the landscape. There are no cars on the rocky island of Hydra, where visitors can tour some of the fabulous mansions once owned by wealthy ship-owners, and walk along donkey trails to remote villages.

Tall Ship Cruise to Turkey and the Southern Cyclades
Day 1
Athens, Greece

Embark Star Clipper.

Day 2
At Sea

A day at sea with time to relax and enjoy Star Clipper's spacious accommodation, including expansive teak decks, comfortable public rooms, and two inviting pools.

Day 3
Bodrum, Turkey

Bodrum was the site of the Mausoleum of Halikarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The medieval castle of St Peter, now a museum, stands guard over the harbour. There are long, sandy beaches with clear water in Bodrum, and one of the best is along the peninsula at Torba, backed by pines and olive groves. A wide variety of excellent restaurants in and around the town offer menus to suit every taste.

Day 4
Dalyan River, Turkey

Dalyan River is a beautiful and unspoilt waterway stretching from the Mediterranean to Lake Koycegiz. Peaceful villages, the Lycian rock tombs, hot sulphur pools and a breeding ground for the Caretta Caretta turtle can all be seen on a journey up-river. Dalyan town has shops, and a good selection of traditional restaurants.

Day 5
Santorini, Cyclades, Greece

The rocky island of Santorini is loved for its spellbinding views from the cliff-top towns of Fira and Oia. The Archaeology Museum displays finds from the excavation of Akrotiri, and in Fira, perhaps viisit the church of Ag Mina, the much-photographed symbol of Santorini.

Day 6
Milos, Cyclades, Greece

Milos is the island where the Venus de Milo was discovered, and alongside many lovely beaches, it has an interesting geology, colouring the rocks shades of pink and red. The little town of Plaka is typically Greek, with narrow streets and the Kastra, the remains of an old Venetian castle. Other interesting sites include the catacombs and amphitheatre close to the isolated fishing village of Klima.

Day 7
Hydra, Saronic Islands, Greece

This interesting island has no roads or vehicles, a wild and sparsely populated interior and magnificent mansions, some open to visitors, and built by shipowners in the 18th century. Walk along steep donkey trails, visit one of the many monasteries, and soak in the atmosphere which attracts artists to make their homes here.

Day 8
Athens, Greece
