Tall Ship Cruise aboard the Royal Clipper to Sicily and the Amalfi Coast

Join Royal Clipper and explore the beautiful Amalfi coast, Sicily and her islands on a 7-night cruise under sail from Rome

The magnificent five-masted Royal Clipper embarks on a voyage along the romantic Italian Riviera to Capri and Sicily. From the port of Rome, visit the little-known island of Ponza; Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, Taormina and the delightful Aeolian island of Lipari.

Sorrento, Italy

The island of Ponza is captivating, a favourite hideaway for Italians, where visitors can enjoy the easy-going pace of life whilst savouring its untouched natural beauty. In contrast, Capri is the glamorous hideaway of the wealthy and famous. Returning to the mainland, the town of Amalfi is a picture-perfect introduction to the Italian Riviera and its string of stylish little fishing villages.

Amalfi, Italy

Elegant Taormina is full of history; the monastery of San Domenico, now a hotel, the fountain of Piazza Duomo and the idyllically situated Greek amphitheatre, framing the Mediterranean and the snow-capped peak of Mount Etna. After visiting the Aeolian island of Lipari, this Italian journey ends as Royal Clipper sails by Stromboli's active volcano.

Tall Ship cruise to Sicily and the Amalfi Coast
Day 1
Civitavecchia (Rome)

Step aboard Royal Clipper in Civitavecchia, the port of Rome.

Day 2
Ponza, Pontine Islands (Italy)

This island in the Tyrrhenian Sea is a taste of the real Italy, little-known and loved for its untamed beauty and unpretentious charm. Take a boat ride from the harbour to discover tiny coves, the Cave of Ulysses and the Grotte di Pilato; Roman fishpools dug from the rock. Picturesque Ponza town has plenty of excellent restaurants.

Day 3
Sorrento - Capri I(taly)

Sorrento is perched above the sea overlooking the Bay of Naples. Sample the locally-produced licquer, Limoncello at one of the cafés on Piazza Tasso, or perhaps take the Circumvesuviana train to nearby Pompeii. Royal Clipper arrives in Capri in the early evening. Stroll glamorous Capri Town and sit in the lovely little square, the Piazzetta, or for wonderful views, take a bus up to lofty Anacapri.

Day 4
Amalfi (Italy)

Amalfi is chic and pretty, with narrow lanes winding down to the sea in a cascade of brightly-painted houses. The atmospheric piazza is dominated by an 11th century Duomo and the impressive stairs which climb up to it. Neighbouring Positano is easy to reach by bus, where there are elegant boutiques and artisan's studios.

Day 5
Taormina (Sicily)

Lovely Taormina is full of culture, history and shopping opportunities. For pastry shops and upmarket Italian designer boutiques, go to Corso Umberto, or for exquisite views of the sea and Mount Etna, visit the much-photographed Greek amphitheatre. There is a cable car from Taormina down to Mazzaró Bay and the nature reserve of Isola Bella.

Day 6
Lipari - Stromboli (Aeolian Islands) (Italy)

Lipari is the largest of the volcanic Aeolian Islands. After exploring the cliff-top citadel and taking refreshments along Vittorio Emanuele Street, perhaps hire a bicycle or scooter to discover more of the island. The little fishing town of Porticello and its beach are popular with locals, or for stunning views of the archipelago, follow the trail to Terme di San Calogero. Leaving Lipari, hopefully witness some gentle volcanic activity as Royal Clipper sails by Stromboli.

Day 7
At sea

As Royal Clipper sails to Civitavecchia, relax on board. Perhaps enjoy a cocktail in the Tropical Bar, or bask in the Mediterranean sun on deck.

Day 8
