Sold out completely in 2011, these exclusive Blue Water Holidays charters feature the 54-passenger MV Lord of the Glens, designed specially for canal and coastal cruising.

Lord of the Glens

Our 2012 itinerary begins with an included coach transfer through Highlands scenery from Inverness to the ship at Kyle of Lochalsh near the bridge to the Isle of Skye. After visiting Skye, Lord of the Glens calls at Inverie on the remote Knoydart penninsula before sailing to the isle of Eigg and to Tobermory on the isle of Mull.

Lord of the Glens at Tobermory, Isle of Mull

On Mull visit the holy isle of Iona and historic Duart Castle before sailing across the Sound of Mull, past Fort William, to enter the Caledonian Canal at Corpach, in the shadow of Ben Nevis and an excursion, with one way by rail, to Glenfinnan of Bonnie Prince Charlie fame, and its noted railway viaduct.

Duart Castle

Lord of the Glens then sails along the Caledonian Canal through the stunning mountain scenery of the Great Glen. The canal links the great lochs of Scotland by one of the most impressive engineering feats in Britain.

Ascending Neptune's Staircase, a dramatic series of eight locks, continue to the picturesque town of Fort Augustus where a series of six locks lowers Lord of the Glens into Loch Ness. Pass Urquhart Castle before visiting the 1746 battle site of Culloden and arrival at Inverness.

Neptune's Staircase

MV Lord of the Glens has the elegant appeal of a luxury yacht, with all-round teak-clad viewing and promenade decks, and rich mahogany interiors. There are 27 traditional styled cabins accommodating 54 passengers, plus a bar, lounge and a restaurant which can accommodate all guests in one sitting.

The town is only accessible from the sea or by a long mountainous walk, and has mainland Britain's most remote pub.

Day 3
Isle of Eigg; Tobermory (Isle of Mull)

Sail past Mallaig and the Isle of Rum to the island of Eigg, home to just 90 inhabitants and offering a glimpse of small island life. After walking on this scenic island, cruise past the Isle of Muck and round Great Britain's most westerly point at Ardnamurchan before reaching the Isle of Mull and the colourful town of Tobermory for overnight. The town has a wealth of interesting shops and is noted for its highly-painted houses on the waterfront. Moor in Tobermory overnight.

Day 4
Isle of Iona

Sail in the morning along the Sound of Mull to Craignure for an included coach and ferry visit to the Isle of Iona, the last resting-place of 50 Scottish Kings, and the former Labour Party leader, John Smith, and where St Columba landed in AD563, introducing Christianity to Britain. See the Abbey and the ruins of the 13th-century nunnery, and perhaps walk to the beaches or take hilltop views. Moor in Craignure overnight.

Day 5
Craignure (Isle of Mull); Banavie

In the morning, visit Duart Castle, the ancestral home of the Maclean clan, before sailing through the Sound of Mull and Loch Linnhe to Corpach and the entrance to the Caledonian Canal. Lord of the Glens then ascends the dramatic eight lock flight of Neptune's Staircase to Banavie, a town in the scenic shadow of Ben Nevis. Moor overnight in Banavie.
