These wonderful 7-night cruises combine a cruise of the complete Caledonian Canal from Inverness in the north to Banavie beneath Ben Nevis in the south, with a cruise to the fascinating Scottish islands of Skye, Mull, Eigg and Iona. These exclusive Blue Water Holidays charters feature the 54-passenger MV Lord of the Glens, designed specially for canal and coastal cruising.

Lord of the Glens

Our 2012 itinerary begins with an included coach transfer through Highlands scenery from Inverness to the ship at Kyle of Lochalsh near the bridge to the Isle of Skye. After visiting Skye, Lord of the Glens calls at Inverie on the remote Knoydart penninsula before sailing to the isle of Eigg and to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.

Lord of the Glens at Tobermory, Isle of Mull

From Mull, visit the holy Isle of Iona and historic Duart Castle before sailing across the Sound of Mull past Fort William, to enter the Caledonian Canal at Corpach, in the shadow of Ben Nevis. Enjoy an excursion to Glenfinnan of Bonnie Prince Charlie fame with its historic monument, stunning views and famous railway viaduct, as seen in the Harry Potter films. Travel back to the ship on the scenic West Highland railway.

Duart Castle

Lord of the Glens then sails along the Caledonian Canal through the stunning mountain scenery of the Great Glen. The canal links the great lochs of Scotland by one of the most impressive engineering feats in Britain.

Ascending Neptune's Staircase, a dramatic series of eight locks, continue to the picturesque town of Fort Augustus where a series of six locks lowers Lord of the Glens into Loch Ness. Pass Urquhart Castle before visiting the 1746 battle site of Culloden and arrival at Inverness.

Neptune's Staircase

MV Lord of the Glens has the elegant appeal of a luxury yacht, with all-round teak-clad viewing and promenade decks, and rich mahogany interiors. There are 27 traditional styled cabins accommodating 54 passengers, plus a bar, lounge and a restaurant which can accommodate all guests in one sitting.

Day 1
Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh

Drive from Inverness and embark Lord of the Glens at Kyle of Lochalsh. Evening Captain's Welcome Reception and dinner. Overnight in Kyle of Lochalsh.

Day 2
Portree (Isle of Skye); Armadale (Isle of Skye); Inverie

See the Cuillins Mountains on a morning tour and visit Portree with its brightly-coloured waterfront houses on the Isle of Skye. Later, sail north beyond Kyle Rhea and the Sound of Sleat to Armadale, where there is a visit to the Clan Donald Centre and Gardens. Sail on to remote Inverie on Loch Nevis, where Lord of the Glens moors overnight.

Day 3
Isle of Eigg; Tobermory (Isle of Mull)

Enjoy an early morning sail around Ardnamurchan Point, the most westerly of mainland Britain, and arrive at the tiny island of Eigg, home to just 90 inhabitants and offering a glimpse of small island life. After exploring, sail through the Sound of Mull to Tobermory. The town's most striking feature is the highly-painted houses on the waterfront, built by the British Fisheries Company for its workers at a cost of £20 each. Moored in Tobermory overnight.

Day 4
Isle of Iona

We sail in the morning to Craignure for a visit to the Isle of Iona, the last resting-place of 50 Scottish Kings, and the former Labour Party leader, John Smith, and where St Columba landed in AD563, introducing Christianity to Britain. See the Abbey and the ruins of the 13th-century nunnery, and perhaps walk to the Bay at the Back of the Ocean. Moor in Craignure overnight.

Day 5
Craignure (Isle of Mull); Banavie

In the morning, visit Duart Castle, the ancestral home of the Maclean clan, before sailing through the Sound of Mull and Loch Linnhe to Corpach and the entrance to the Caledonian Canal. Lord of the Glens will ascend the eight flights of Neptune's Staircase to Banavie, a town in the scenic shadow of Ben Nevis. Moor overnight in Banavie.

Day 6
Fort Augustus; Glenfinnan

Continue sailing in the morning along the Caledonian Canal via Loch Lochy, the leafy Laggan Avenue and Loch Oich to Fort Augustus. There is a visit this afternoon to Glenfinnan, famous for the grand viaduct built by Sir Robert MacAlpine, and the Glenfinnan Monument at the head of Loch Shiel. Moor in Fort Augustus overnight.

Day 7
Inverness; Clava Cairns

This morning, sail across Loch Ness, pausing to admire Urquhart Castle. Later, cross Loch Dochfour and arrive in Inverness at the end of the Caledonian Canal. There is an afternoon visit to Culloden, site of the famous battle of 1746, and the prehistoric burial chambers and standing stones of Clava Cairns. Evening Captain's Farewell Reception and dinner. Moor in Inverness overnight.
