Imperial China Itinerary

Day 1 - UK – Beijing (China)

Fly from London Heathrow to Beijing.

Day 2 - Beijing

You will be met on arrival at the airport. Enjoy a three-night stay at the Jianguo Hotel next to the Silk Market. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Reception.

Day 3 - Beijing - Forbidden City

Embark on a half-day tour of the iconic Tiananmen Square. Continue to the World Heritage-listed Forbidden City and see its many palaces and pavilions. Enjoy free time this afternoon and perhaps explore the famous Silk Market. A Taste of China – indulge in a tantalising Peking Duck banquet. (B,D)

Day 4 - Beijing - Great Wall of China

Enjoy a cable car ride to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China. Later, visit the Sacred Way of the Ming Dynasty Tombs. Stop at a jade factory and see the Olympic Stadium. (B,L)

Day 5 - Beijing – Yichang

This morning, enjoy a pedicab tour through the hutongs (narrow streets) of Old Beijing. Explore the historic alleyways and visit the home of a local family. Later, transfer to the airport and fly to Yichang and transfer to your river ship for your Yangtze cruise. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Three Gorges Dam - Xiling Gorge

Take in the spectacular scenery as you cruise through the breathtaking Three Gorges region. Enjoy a guided tour of the Three Gorges Dam, before continuing on cruising through Xiling Gorge, the longest and deepest of the Three Gorges. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Daning River – Wu Gorge - Qutang Gorge

Visit the Daning River, home to the Three Lesser Gorges. Then, continue your adventure to Wu Gorge. After lunch, pass between the majestic Chijia Mountain and Baiyan Mountain to Qutang Gorge. (B,L,D)

Day 8 - Shibaozhai

Alight your ship for a fascinating tour of Shibaozhai, a wooden temple standing 56 metres high. Built on a steep and rocky knoll, this pyramid-like structure’s beautiful red adornments provide a striking contrast to the green surrounds. (B,L,D)

Day 9 - Chongqing – Xi’an

This morning, disembark your ship. Travel to Chongqing Zoo where you can see the famous Giant Pandas. Later, transfer to the airport and fly to Xi'an. A Taste of China - Enjoy a dumpling banquet followed by a Tang Dynasty show. Enjoy a two-night stay at the Shangri-La Golden Flower Hotel. (B,D)

Day 10 - Xi’an

On the way to the Museum of Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses, visit a clay factory where Terracotta soldiers are still made today. At the museum, visit the excavation pits and view the sculptures which were buried over time. Like a Local – this evening, head out to the city’s vibrant Muslim Quarter and explore the exciting range of food stalls. A visit here wouldn’t be complete without tasting babao meigui jing gao, or eight-treasure rose mirror cakes – a unique Muslim treat. (B,L)

Day 11 - Xi'an - Shanghai – Wuzhen

Enjoy the morning at leisure, before flying to Shanghai. Travel to the ancient water town of Wuzhen and see where Marco Polo roamed as you discover the beautiful canals and cobblestone streets. The evening is yours to explore Wuzhen. Here, street lamps illuminate age-old lanes, their dim light putting the past on display as amber reflections ripple in the water and ancient stone bridges create striking silhouettes. Special Stay – at Tong’an Guesthouse located in a traditional setting. (B)

Day 12 - Shanghai

Enjoy a cruise along the canals of Wuzhen. These beautiful waterways offer a glimpse into ancient times gone by. Return to Shanghai and later, enjoy dinner at your leisure. Stay at the Hotel Equatorial Shanghai. (B,L)

Day 13 - Shanghai

Like a Local - discover why China was ‘built on tea’ as you partake in a traditional tea ceremony at Yu Garden. Afterwards, continue to explore the lavish gardens, including its impressive Jade Rock boulder, then embark on a tour of Shanghai’s beautiful Old City. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner at Ding Tai Fung, which is famed for its authentic steamed dumplings. (B,D)

Day 14 - Shanghai – UK

You’ll have time to explore Shanghai at leisure before being transferred to the airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
