Splendours of Italy Itinerary
Day 1 - UK - Milan (Italy)
Fly from the UK to Milan. Meet your representative on arrival and transfer to the Starhotel Rosa Grand (or similar) for a two night stay.
Day 2 - Milan
Milan is the fashion capital of Italy. Discover two of its greatest sights on a guided tour - the impressive Gothic cathedral and Da Vinci's incredible The Last Supper. (B)
Day 3 - Verona
Travel to Venice today, stopping en route in Verona, home to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Enjoy a delicious lunch and tasting at a Valpolicella wine estate. On arrival in Venice, you will board the River Countess for your cruise. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Venice
Enjoy a walking tour along Venice's charming lanes which visits the city's top attractions and includes a Venetian glassmaking demonstration. This evening, there is an after-hours visit inside St Mark's Basilica, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Later, enjoy a Captain's Welcome Reception and Gala Dinner. Please note: St Mark's Basilica visit may not be possible due to religious functions and festivities. If this is the case, we will visit during regular hours.
Day 5 - Chioggia
Enjoy spectacular views of Venice and the Grand Canal as your ship departs. Explore the delightful fishing village of Chioggia on a guided walking tour, or join the exclusive cycling tour of Chioggia's scenic beachfront.
Day 6 - Polesella (Bologna or Ferrara)
Spend the whole day on an excursion to Bologna and join an exclusive pasta-making workshop where you can learn to make your own Italian pasta, followed by lunch at a renowned restaurant. Alternatively spend a half-day in Ferrara, one of Italy's best-kept secrets, full of Renaissance treasures. (B,L,D)
Day 7 - Taglio de Po - Chiogga
Visit the colourful fishing village of Chioggia on the Venice Lagoon. Head to the fish market with a guide or head to a casoni (fisherman's hut) to learn the art of mussel harvesting. (B,L,D)
Day 8 - Burano - Mazzorbo
Spend the day exploring the Venice Lagoon and three of its enchanting islands - Burano, Mazzorbo and Torcello. Learn about the history of lace making in colourful Burano before heading to Mazzorbo for a special wine tasting as it is here that the grape variety Dorona yeilds Prosecco. Visit the 7th-century cathedral in Torcello to see its stunning Byzantine mosaics. (B,D)
Day 9 - Venice
Experience daily life in Venice on a guided stroll through the Rialto Market or head to the renowned Accademia Gallery with an art historian. This evening, there is a Captain's Farewell Reception and Gala Dinner. (B,L,D)
Day 10 - Florence
Disembark and head to Florence with its artistic treasures including Michelangelo's David, which you'll see on a guided visit to the Accademia Gallery. Check-in to the Hotel Brunelleschi (or similar) for a two-night stay. (B,L)
Day 11 - Florence
Enjoy a walking tour of Florence with highlights including the cathedral of St Mary of the Flower and Signoria Plaza. Admire the Palazzo Pitti, a Renaissance palace, across the river. (B,D)
Day 12 - Rome
Admire Tuscany's breathtaking scenery as you travel by coach, stopping en route to Rome for a homemade lunch and wine tasting at an estate in Chianti country. Check-in to the Parco dei Principi hotel (or similar) for a three-night stay and join a guided walk through Rome's baroque centre. (B,L)
Day 13 - Rome
Enjoy a panoramic tour of the city's iconic sights including Nazionale Piazza Venezia, Piazza della Repubblica and the Forum. Head inside the Colosseum then walk through the heart of the city, from Piazza Navona to the Pantheon. (B,D)
Day 14 - Rome
Join a guided tour of the Vatican Museums visiting sights including St Peter's Basilica and Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel with its beautiful frescoes. (B,L)
Day 15 - Rome - UK
Transfer to Rome Leonardo da Vinci Airport for your flight back to the UK. (B)
For navigational reasons the Captain of the ship reserves the right to modify the cruise itinerary. Due to Italian regulations the ship cannot sail with passengers on the short section of the Adriatic Sea between Chioggia and the mouth of the River Po.
