Essence of India Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Delhi (India)

Fly from London Heathrow to Delhi.

Day 2 - Delhi

The city bridges two different worlds, Old Delhi with its narrow lanes with private mansions and mosques and New Delhi created by the British Raj with its tree-lined avenues and magnificent buildings. Upon arrival, transfer to the Hyatt Regency Delhi for your two-night stay. (D)

Day 3 - Delhi

Enjoy a visit to Birla Mandir, an ornate temple before continuing to Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque. Like a local - take a guided rickshaw ride through Old Delhi. See the Red Fort before enjoying a trip to Qutub Minar. (B,L)

Day 4 - Agra

Visit India Gate, a memorial for Indian soldiers who died in WWI. Head to Agra via Humayun's Tomb. Two night stay at the Courtyard by Marriott. (B)

Day 5 - Agra

Visit Agra Fort and the iconic Taj Mahal. Afterwards enjoy a special dinner at Anise in the Courtyard by Marriott. (B,D)

Day 6 - Agra - Jaipur

Head to Jaipur stopping at Fatehpur Sikri, a deserted fortified city. Enjoy lunch at Laxmi Vilas Palace before continuing to Jaipur known as the Pink City. Two-night stay at Jaipur Marriott Hotel. (B,L)

Day 7 - Jaipur

This morning, head out for a day of sightseeing. Travel to the Amber Fort by Jeep, explore Hawa Mahal and Jaipur's City Palace. Enjoy a Rajasthani cooking class followed by lunch. (B,L)

Day 8 - Kolkata - Barrackpore

Fly to Kolkata and embark Rajmahal for the Lower Ganges River cruise. Enjoy a walking tour of Barrackpore. (B,L,D)

Day 9 - Chandannagar - Chinsura - Hooghly

Tour Chandannagar then cruise to Chinsura and Hooghly. (B,L,D)

Day 10 - Kalna - Mayapur

From Kalna enjoy a cycle rickshaw tour of some of Bengal's most important temples before journeying to Mayapur. (B,L,D)

Day 11 - Matiari - Plassey

Visit the brass-working village of Matiari then cruise to the site of the Battle of Plassey. (B,L,D)

Day 12 - Murshidabad

From Murshidabad explore the beautiful Hazarduari Palace, famous for its 1000 doors. (B,L,D)

Day 13 - Baranagar

Disembark in Baranagar this morning to see traditional rural India at its most idyllic. (B,L,D)

Day 14 - Jangipur - Gaur

Spend the afternoon at leisure at the Farakka Barrage, or perhaps take an optional trip to the deserted city of Gaur where the ruins date back to the 13th century. (B,L,D)

Day 15 - Farakka - Kolkata

Disembark Rajmahal in Farakka and take the local train to Kolkata. Enjoy lunch at Oh! Calcutta and tour the city. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner at Sonargaon Restaurant and stay overnight at the Taj Bengal. (B,L,D)

Day 16 - Kolkata - UK

Tour the city on a private tram car ride then transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK.

Day 17 - Arrive UK

Arrive in the UK.
