Day 1 - UK - Delhi (India)

Fly from London Heathrow to New Delhi.

Day 2 - Delhi

The city bridges two different worlds, Old Delhi with its narrow lanes with private mansions and mosques and New Delhi created by the British Raj with its tree-lined avenues and magnificent buildings. Upon arrival, transfer to the Taj Mahal hotel for your two-night stay. (D)

Day 3 - Delhi

Enjoy a visit to Birla Mandir, an ornate temple before continuing to Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque. Like a local - take a guided rickshaw ride through Old Delhi. See the Red Fort before having lunch at the Chor Bazaar and enjoying a trip to Qutub Minar. Later, perhaps watch a Bollywood performance. (B,L)

Day 4 - Delhi- Agra

There is the opportunity to take a walk to the Jamali Kamali Mosque before rejoining the group. Visit the India Gate, a memorial for Indian soldiers who died in WW1. Head to Agra via Humayun's Tomb. Two night stay at the Jaypee Palace Hotel. (B)

Day 5 - Agra

Visit Agra Fort and in the afternoon return to the Taj Mahal. Afterwards, enjoy the musical, Mohabbat the Taj. A Taste of India - head to Paatra restaurant. (B,D)

Day 6 - Agra - Jaipur

Perhaps rise early and enjoy a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal. Later head to Jaipur stopping at Fatehpur Sikri, a deserted medieval city. Enjoy lunch at Laxmi Vilas Palace before continuing to Jaipur known as the Pink City. Perhaps learn about the technique of block printing on fabric. Two-night stay at Jaipur Marriott Hotel. (B,L)

Day 7 - Jaipur

This morning, head out for a day of sightseeing. See the sights of Jaipur before travelling to the Amber Fort by Jeep. A Taste of India - enjoy a cooking class followed by lunch at Spice Court Restaurant. Later, there is an optional elephant safari excursion through the countrysid ebefore dinner. (B,L)

Day 8 - Jaipur - Patna

Transfer to the airport for your included flight to Patna to embark the Rajmahal for your Lower Ganges cruise. (B,L,D)

Day 9 - Patna - Barh

Enjoy a tour of Patna with highlights including the 18th-century Gola Ghar granary and the magnificent Sikh temple. Back on board, cruise past the old East India Company opium warehouses and morro overnight. (B,L,D)

Day 10 - Nalanda - Mokameh

Enjoy an excursion to the excavated great Buddhist monastery at Nalanda the visit the Pawapuri jain temple. Return to your ship in the evening moored at the great bridge of Mokameh. (B,L,D)

Day 11 - Monghyr - Sultanganj

See the Mughal fort in Monghyr as well as an East India Company Cemetery. You can also visit the Pirpahar Hill and the Sitakund hot springs. Continue cruising and anchor near Jahangira Island at Sultanganj, a place of pilgrimage. (B,L,D)

Day 12 - Bhagalpur - Bateshwar

Look out for Gangetic dolphins as you head to Bhagalpur. Visit the 18th-century mansion built by Augustus Cleveland as well as a silk-weaving village. Head to Bateshwar with wits 6th-century Hindu carvings and the nearby ruins at Vikramshila. (B,L,D)

Day 13 - Rajmahal - Farakka Barrage

Cruise to Rajmahal, hard to find in guidebooks. See the remains of palaces and forts before continuing on to Farakka Barrage. (B,L,D)

Day 14 - Jangipur or Gaur

Spend the afternoon at leisure in Jangipur or perhaps enjoy a full day excursion to Gaur. (B,L,D)

Day 15 - Baranagar

Walk through rice fields to three miniature terracotta temples. Continue past Azimganj to Murshidabad. Moor and walk to the Khushbagh, a Moghul-style garden. You'll also explore Katra Mosque, Nashipara Palace and Katgola Palace. (B,L,D)

Day 16 - Murshidabad - Katwa

Like a Local - On the Murshidabad waterfront, explore Nawab's Hazarduari Palace with its collection of art, china and weapons. Return to the ship and cruise to a mooring close to the battlefield of Plassey. (B,L,D)

Day 17 - Matiari

Explore the brassworking village of Matiari before continuing to Mayapur, a place of special sacred significance. See the new ISKCON temple which dominates the skyline. (B,L,D)

Day 18 - Kalna - Bandel

Head to the town of Kalna, named of for the Hindu goddess Kali. Like a Local - enjoy a cycle rickshaw to some of Bengal's most spectacular temples. Continue to the Imambara near Bandel. (B,L,D)

Day 19 - Chandernagore - Barrackpore

Cruise past the old Dutch settlement at Chinsura before arriving at Chandernagore. See the 18th-century church and Dupleix's House before continuing to Barrackpore and past the Semaphore Tower, Government House and Flagstaff House. Perhaps visit the old Danish colony of Serampore. (B,L,D)

Day 20 - Kolkata

Disembark Rajmahal in Kolkata. Visit the bustling Flower Market before heading to the first institution established by Mother Teresa, Nirmal Hriday. You can also see the poignant Victoria Memorial. A Taste of India - have lunch at Oh! Calcutta restaurant. Special Stay - stay at The Oberoi Grand. (B,L)

Day 21 - Kolkata - UK

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)

Day 22 - UK

Arrive back at London Heathrow.
