Begin this cruise holiday with two nights exploring Lisbon, Portugal's capital city before joining your ship in Porto.

Enjoy a tour of Porto and see the baroque cathedrals and the historic centre of the city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit a port wine-making facility or take an optional excursion to Guimaraes, another UNESCO World Heritage Site before rejoining the ship in Bitetos.

Cruise along the beautiful Douro river to Regua and transfer to Lamego, a town famous for its baroque Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies. Here visit the Gothic cathedral and explore the ruins of Lamego Castle.

Explore Pinhao and Barca d'Alva where you can learn how the unique Portuguese port wines are made. At the Spanish border you'll indulge in a scenic ride into Spain to visit the medieval city of Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

From Vega de Terron, take a tour to Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, a historic parish before reaching your final port of call, Regua, where you will take a tour to Vila Real, the site of the extraordinary Mateus Palace.

Golden River Douro Itinerary

Day 1 - UK - Lisbon (Portugal)

Fly from the UK to Lisbon where you will be met at the airport and transferred to Hotel Tivoli Lisboa or similar in the heart of Lisbon. Relax this afternoon and evening or begin exploring the city a bit on your own.

Day 2 - Lisbon

Take a guided tour of Lisbon, beginning at Belem with a tour of Jeronimos Monastery and Tower of Belem, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Walk up the hill to the Alfama District and learn about Lisbon's history. (B)

Day 3 - Porto

Check out of the hotel after breakfast and take a scenic ride up the Portuguese coast to Porto. Stop at Coimbra, birthplace of six Portuguese kings for a tour of the university. Arrive in Porto and proceed to the dock to board your ship. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Porto - Bitetos

Take a guided tour of Porto, a charming riverside community with a historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See the baroque cathedrals and 16th century buildings. Visit a typical port wine-making facility before returning to the ship for lunch. Explore Porto at leisure this afternoon or take an optional excursion to Guimaraes. (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Regua - Pinhao

Cruise along the Douro, arriving late morning in Regua. Take an included tour of Vila Real, site of the Mateus Palace, a stunning Baroque building. You can also enjoy a tour of an iconic port wine-making institution. Rejoin your ship in Pinhao for dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Pinhao - Barca d'Alva

Cruise along the Douro to Barca d'Alva. This afternoon, enjoy a tour of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo with its narrow streets and charming houses which still present 16th-century facades. See Sinagoga Street, a reminder of the Jewsih community. Rejoin your ship. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Salamanca (Spain)

Today you have a full-day excursion to Salamanca, Spain. This ancient city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a living museum that takes visitors back to the Middle Ages, yet it is a cosmopolitan, multicultural city. Take a ride through the Iberian countryside then explore the city in free time. Lunch is at a local restaurant and features an unforgettable flamenco show. Your afternoon guided city tour takes you to the Gothic House of Shells, the 13th-century Salamanca University and the New Cathedral, built from 1513 through 1733. Rejoin your ship in Vega de Terron. Day 8 - Vega de Terron - Pinhao (Portugal)

Arrive in Pinhao this afternoon and travel to the village of Favaios. Make your way to one of the last traditional bakeries in the Douro Valley and enjoy a visit to the local museum. For lunch dine at Quinta da Avessada. (B,L,D)

Day 9 - Pinhao - Regua

Arrive in Regua and take an included excursion to Lamego, a town famous for its Baroque Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies church, dating back to the 14th century. You'll also see the 12th-century Lamego Castle. Farewell Dinner on board this evening. (B, L, D)

Day 10 - Porto - UK

After breakfast, disembark and proceed to the airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
