Departing from Tierra del Fuego, the "Land at the End of the World", this wonderful cruise presents the opportunity to tread in the foosteps of great explorers. It is a privilege to watch the Antarctic's fascinating wildlife in its natural wilderness habitat, including albatross, rockhopper, Megellanic amd king penguins, and seals resting on moving ice floes.

Itineraries are intentionally unstructured, as following only a tentative schedule allows for moment-by-moment flexibility. Stay longer at sites of particular interest, or make slight detours whenever weather, nature or mere curiosity dictate. The expedition leader will work closely with the Captain to maximise the opportunities for adventure and exploration based on prevailing weather, wildlife activity and sea/ice conditions.

Inflatable Zodiac boats allow exploration of places that would otherwise be inaccessible. They are not only incredibly safe and secure, but also provide opportunities for up-close explorations. All guests will participate in a complete Zodiac familiarisation session upon embarkation.

Explorer's Antarctica Itinerary
Day 1
Ushuaia, Argentina

Fly from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia to embark Prince Albert II and meet the Expedition Team.

Day 2
Day at Sea

As Prince Albert II sails to the Falkland Islands, the on-board team of expert guides will give a preview of the expedition area. There is time to enjoy the ship's extensive facilities, including an internet café and library.

Day 3
West Point Island & Carcass Island, Falkland Islands

Wildlife on West Point Island includes Rockhopper penguins, Black-browed albatross and Commerson's dolphins. Carcass Island is one of the most picturesque outer-lying islands. It is home to many small birds such as the Cobbs wren, Black-chinned siskins and Falklands thrush. The sandy beaches, rolling hills and low cliffs are superb platforms from which to view the multitude of sea and shore birds that either breed or feed on and around Carcass Island. These include the Gentoo and Magellanic penguin, Yellow-billed pintail and flightless Steamer duck, Magellanic oystercatcher, Rock shag and Red-Backed hawk.

Day 4
Stanley, Falkland Islands

The Falkland Islands are a photographer's paradise, with fantastic landscapes and tiny settlements nestling in large open spaces amongst varied wildlife and the delicate beauty of Falklands flowers. The Falkland Islands have a rich military and maritime history, and there are some remnants of the most recent conflict still in evidence.

Days 5 & 6
Days at Sea

Two days at sea on board Prince Albert II with time to savour amenities usually found only on larger ships, including a spa, sauna, fitness centre, live evening entertainment and two top-deck whirlpools.

Days 7-10
South Georgia

South Georgia is a beautiful and rugged island wildlife sanctuary. Its snow covered peaks, blue glacier ice and emerald green bays are breathtaking sights which can be explored from the ship's zodiacs. As well as being inhabited by many sea and land birds and seals, this area was explored by Captain James Cook and Ernest Shackleton.

Days 11-12
Days at Sea

Further time to enjoy the on board facilities and lectures from the Expedition Team. The Prince Albert II has a Connoisseur's Corner, formerly The Humidor, where guests can enjoy fine cigars and cognacs.

Days 13-15
Cruise & explore the Antarctic Peninsula

Antarctica is one of earth's last great frontiers. Prince Albert II follows in the footsteps of pioneering spirits to a land of pristine and unspoilt landscapes. Our itinerary will be dictated by sea and weather conditions, but weather permitting, exploration of Antarctica's natural diversity continues. Passing thick pack ice which shimmers beneath a southern sky, watch out for icebergs and for whales breaching the surface of the water.

Days 16-17
Drake Passage

Returning to South America through the Drake Passage, the clarity of the air affords spectacular views of the southern night skies. This is the area known as the Antarctic Convergence where the cold polar water meets warmer equatorial water.

Day 18
Ushuaia, Argentina

Disembark Prince Albert II.
