Peaks, Ruins and Eric the Red - Hurtigruten Greenland and Iceland Cruise

This stunning 12-day voyage offers a chance to discover something of Greenland’s vast array of natural and historic treasures, including polar bears, birdlife and some of the country’s most breathtaking landscapes, before ending in Iceland.

This twelve day expedition cruise allows you to explore the Arctic culture and landscape of Greenland and Iceland. We embark from Kangerlussuaq on the West Coast of Greenland and sail to the beautiful Evighedsfjorden, surrounded by glaciers and mountains. We call in at Nuuk which is the capital and largest city of Greenland although, at around 18,000 inhabitants, it is one of the smallest capital cities in the world by population.

Breathtaking arctic scenery awaits us in Southern Greenland where we visit Qassiarsuk, the small community where Viking Erik the Red settled in 982 after he was exiled from Iceland. We navigate through Prins Christian Sund andsail on to isolated Eastern Greenland, which is sometimes referrred to as the original Greenland.

Iceland

Depending on weather and ice conditions, we plan to visit Skjolungen Island and Koge Bugt where the Ice Cap reaches the sea and large tabular icebergs are calving. Our specially designed expedition ship, MS Fram, safely navigates us across the Denmark Strait to Iceland's western fjords where we arrive at Isafjordur, the largest town in the area. We sail down Iceland's picturesque coastline enjoying the volcanic landscape filled with glaciers, colourful fishing villages and seabirds and disembark in Reykjavik, Iceland's capital.
