Tromsø - Kirkenes - Tromsø
5 days/4 nights half board
Join an Arctic adventure which travels to remote regions along
the dramatic coastline and to the most northerly part of Norway.
Although our journey will be at the same latitude as Siberia
and Alaska, the influence of the Gulf Stream creates the longest
ice–free polar coast. The entire duration of this tour
is spent above the Arctic Circle, increasing
your chances of seeing the Aurora Borealis.
Joining our ship in Norway’s Arctic capital, Tromsø,
we begin our leisurely voyage north. Together with our fellow
passengers, we keep our eyes to the skies as we pass through
the waters towards Honningsvåg.
From
Honningsvåg we may join an excursion to mainland Europe’s
most northerly point, North Cape. This is
a wild and windswept headland where the cliffs rise dramatically
300 metres from the sea, and we gaze out with nothing but
water between us and the frozen wastes surrounding the North
Pole.
Sailing on, we now bear east, and eventually reach the sheltered
harbour of Kirkenes, a mere 10km from the
Russian border. Kirkenes is the turning point for the Hurtigruten
voyage, and this fascinating little town allows a tantalising
glimpse into life in this remote region of Norway.
As the return journey from Kirkenes hugs
the coastline we revisit remote settlements which rely on
the Hurtigruten ships to maintain contact with the rest of
Norway. We stay overnight in Tromsø after leaving
the ship.

Cape – Europe’s Northernmost Point
From Honningsvåg a coach will take us to the North Cape Plateau where we share unsurpassed views towards the North Pole, a potentially incredible backdrop for experiencing the Northern Lights.

Barents Safari - Kirkenes
Drive a snowmobile across the frozen sea (full instruction given, driving licence required). On our return we can relax in a traditional dwelling, and enjoy an introduction to the everyday life of the Sami. Warm clothing is provided.

Kirkenes
A short tour takes us to the border with Russia, providing a distant glimpse of the lands that lie east.

Dog Sledging – Tromsø
Experience a real taste of Arctic Norway, across the plains of Tromsø. Huskies are harnessed to our sledge and together we speed across the frozen landscape. A warm meal in a Lavvo (Sami tent) is included. Participants on this excursion will be collected from their hotel, and taken directly to the airport after the trip.

Join the MS Richard With on 23 December and celebrate
Christmas on board with a special meal and Christmas
carols.
New Year
On our 6-day New Years departure on 27 December
we have added a night in Tromsø before you
board the ship allowing time to see the town before
you set sail. A special New Years Eve meal will
be served before we return to enjoy Tromsø's
New Year celebrations.
Valentine's Day
For a very special Valentine's day why not join
our departure on 11 February and spend Valentine's
day on board. You'll arrive in Tromsø late
in the evening and have the option to take part
in a romantic dog sledging excursion the following
morning before you depart. |
