In Search of the Northern Lights Excursions

Make the most of your voyage by complementing it with one or more selections from our wide range of excursions from thrilling activities to relaxing city tours. Warm clothes and comfortable sturdy shoes are recommended. All trips are accompanied by knowledgeable English speaking guides and any necessary equipment will be provided.

A number of optional land excursions are available before your voyage starts or after it finishes - full descriptions of these are shown below. Please refer to the itinerary description for a list of available excursions. Only excursions listed with the itinerary may be added to your holiday. To avoid disappointment we recommend that you pre-book excursions as soon as possible and at least 14 days prior to departure.

To provide you with the best experience the excursions have been categorised into three different levels according to the level of fitness required to ensure you get the most from your excursion:
Level 1: Suitable for everyone
Level 2: Suitable for most guests, requires some physical effort
Level 3: Suitable for guests in good physical condition

Excursions Added Before or After Your Voyage

Dog Sledging - Tromsø:
Complete your holiday with a thrilling ride by Husky dog sledge across the open plains of Tromsø. Eager Huskies are harnessed to our sledge waiting to transport you across the frozen landscape. At the end of the trip a warm meal will be served in a Lavvo (Sami tent). An exhilarating trip!

Reindeer Sledging - Tromsø:
Join this excursion to Risvika, outside Tromsø, for a thrilling reindeer sledging excursion. Whilst sledging through the Norwegian winter landscape the only thing you will hear is the reindeer bells, a peaceful experience. After the sledging you will be taken to the Lavvo (Sami tent), where a tradtional Sami meal, Bidos, will be served to warm you up after your ride.

Tromsø Arctic Panorama - Tromsø:
The cable car will take you up the mountain to the lodge. Your guide will show you the spectacular view over Tromsø, the mountains and the islands. You will have the opportunity to take some photographs and have a short walk before coffee, tea and cakes are served at the mountain lodge.

Aurora Safari with Dinner by Cable Car - Tromsø -
Ride up the famous cable car and take in the breathtaking view from Tromsø, away from any light pollution. This is the perfect spot for seeing the Northern Lights and perhaps walk over to the viewpoint for even better views. Enjoy a delicious 3-course dinner in the mountain lodge as you learn more about Tromsø and the magical Aurora Borealis.

Snowmobiling at dusk

Snowmobile Safari in Lyngen - Tromsø:
Join this snowmobiling adventure of a lifetime into the wild Arctic landscape around camp Tamok, just 90kms from Tromsø. After a thorough introduction you will set off on the snowmobile through valleys and frozen lakes. On your return you will warm up with hot coffee, a traditional local warm meal and Lefse (traditional Norwegian pastry) in the Sami Lavvo, giving you a true sense of the Sami way of life.

In the Footsteps of Amundsen - Tromsø:
2011 marked the 100th anniversary of Roald Amundsen's succesful race to become the first person to reach the South Pole. Your guide will take you on a fascinating walk of Tromsø, the starting point for many polar expeditions. You will stop at the Roald Amundsen statue before ending your tour with a visit to one of Tromsø's most popualr pubs, with beer from the Northernmost brewery in the world.

Dog Sledging - Kirkenes:
Try our Husky safari in the Arctic where you can drive your own team of dogs. After an introduction in how to handle these eager Huskies you will feel the exhilaration of standing on the runners of your sledge and speeding across the snowy landscape. This is an experience of speed, teamwork and of course beautiful scenery.

King Crab Safari - Kirkenes:
This excursion offers a unique experience of watching your guides ice fishing to catch the largest and freshest King Crabs in the world. These incredible crustaceans can span 2 metres and weigh up to 15 kilos. They will be prepared and cooked for you when you return to shore – a rewarding meal at the end of a fabulous excursion.

Aurora Adventure - Kirkenes:
Venture deep into the snow-filled Pasvik Valley from Kirkenes in search of the Northern Lights. Far from the artifical light, you will travel from Storfjellet to the Strand Museum, home to Norwegian antiques and examples of life from a bygone age where a warm drink and traditional cakes will be served.

Please note that all excursions may be subject to minimum/maximum numbers as well as weather, ice and snow conditions. Any excursions booked on board the ships or locally will be charged in Norwegian Kroner and the prices may vary due to fluctuations in the exchange rate. The operators reserve the right to alter the contents without prior notice.

Dog sledging excursions:
Please note that if this cannot take place due to a lack of snow an alternative may be offered. Any difference in price will be refunded on your return to the UK.
