Join this itinerary for a voyage along the Norwegian coast from Bergen, gateway to the fjords across the Arctic Circle to Tromsø, capital of Arctic Norway.

We begin our voyage in Bergen, birthplace of Edvard Grieg, and as we set sail we leave everyday life behind. After making several brief calls along the unspoilt coastline, the ship heads across the open sea to the delightful Art Nouveau town of Ålesund.

Trondheim, Norway’s former capital city and our next major stop, is a complete contrast with its wooden buildings, brightly painted wharves and warehouses and the 14th century Nidaros Cathedral.

There is a buzz of anticipation as we cross the Arctic Circle and later in the day the grandeur of the legendary Lofoten Islands is revealed. At Svolvær, the capital, there is time for an after dinner stroll, perhaps to visit the world’s first Ice Gallery ‘Magic Ice’, which illustrates tantalising tales about the islands and their people, with dramatically lit ice sculptures and music. The voyage ends in Tromsø, where we transfer for our flights back home.

Voyage Itinerary

DAY 1

Fly to Bergen and transfer to the ship for embarkation. (D)

DAYS 2-4

Enjoy the voyage and some of its 20 ports of call, from the smaller fishing communities to larger towns. (B, D)

DAY 5

Arrive Tromsø mid afternoon, transfer to the airport for your international flights. (B)

Extended Itinerary

DAY 5

Transfer to your hotel for overnight stay. Free time to explore Tromsø, enjoy an Arctic Gourmet Dinner, or join the optional dog sledging excursion (see below). (B)

DAYS 6

There may be time to visit some of Tromsø’s main attractions before you transfer to the airport for your international flight. (B)

Ålesund Walking Tour
Make the most of your time in this picturesque town which stands at the entrance to four fjords, including the famous Geirangerfjord, with a guide to make sure you miss none of the highlights.

Trondheim Sightseeing
This tour of Trondheim and its outskirts visits the famous medieval Nidaros Cathedral and passes by the Stiftsgården Palace, one of Scandinavia’s most impressive wooden buildings.

Longer Stays

To increase the chances of seeing the Northern Lights and soak up Tromsø’s captivating atmosphere, we recommend an extra night at the end of your voyage. This would also, weather permitting; allow the possibility of joining our optional dog sledging excursion, a truly exhilarating experience.

Dog sledging – Tromsø
Experience a real taste of Norway which takes you by dog sledge across the open plains of Tromsø. An exhilarating adventure made more magical by the beams of light shining from the helmet lamps of the riders.

Special Celebrations

Christmas
If you travel on the 22 December you will be on board the ship to celebrate a traditional Norwegian Christmas with Christmas dinner and carol singing. The voyage part of our 22 December departure is planned on a full-board basis.

New Year
If you travel with MS Trollfjord on 30 December, you can take part in the New Year celebrations on board. The ships usually stay in port for the New Year celebrations and fireworks and some local entertainment may be arranged.

Valentine’s Day
Depart 12 or 13 February 2008 and spend Valentine's day in Norway. If you choose the extended itinerary you can also enjoy a dog sledging excursion in Tromsø or an Arctic gourmet dinner (both optional).
