Lands of Myths and Fables

A 10-night cruise from Athens to the Cyclades, Turkey, Dubrovnik, Corfu, and Venice aboard Regent Seven Seas Voyager

Special Offer
Exclusive $500 Shipboard credit per suite plus free flights and unlimited shore excursions!

This fascinating cruise is a journey to the lands of Greek legend, and the picturesque modern-day towns, islands and ancient remains of the Mediterranean and the Adriatic. Visit the deserted island birthplace of the twin sons of Zeus, the remarkable site of the classical city of Ephesus, and the summer palace built by the Empress of Austria in homage to Greek legend in Corfu.

Celsus Library, Ephesus

Departing from Athens, Seven Seas Voyager arrives at the magical uninhabited island of Delos. In legend, this was the birthplace of Artemis and Apollo and it is peppered with temples dedicated to the gods.

Santorini

North on the Turkish coast is Kusadasi, the busy entry port for Ephesus. The atmospheric Greek remains conjure up images of ancient times, when it was recorded that Antony and Cleopatra passed the winter here in 33BC. Sailing into Greek waters, the tall cliffs of Santorini come into view, topped with a chaotic jumble of white houses clinging to the caldera's edge.

Corfu

In the Adriatic, unbroken city walls encircle Dubrovnik, the handsome Croatian city of elegant streets and gently fading palaces. Seven Seas Voyager departs for Venice, the final destination on this cruise through the Mediterranean.

Land of Myths and Fables
Day 1
Athens (Piraeus), Greece

Seven Seas Voyager departs from Piraeus, the port of Athens. Stroll the Plaka for shopping and a view of the historic city, or venture to Ermou Street for international boutiques before visiting Athens' landmark, the Acropolis.

Day 2
Delos and Mykonos, Islands of the Cyclades, Greece

Close to Mykonos, this small sacred island is uninhabited and scattered with ancient ruins and the remains of Greek temples. Leading from the Sacred Way, there are four areas to explore; the Maritime Quarter, the Theatre and Lion Districts and the Sanctuary of Apollo. Mykonos has a cluster of white-washed houses around its pretty fishing harbour, with narrow alleys and welcoming locals. The island is famed for its natural beauty and numerous well-preserved windmills.

Day 3
Kusadasi, Turkey

Kusadasi has been an important port since at least 1413, when it was claimed by the Ottomans. Today it is the entry point for visitors to the magnificent site of the Greek city of Ephesus. Walking down the Marble Road, it is easy to imagine the life of its inhabitants, and distinguished visitors, including St Paul. The lovely façade of the Celsus Library, Hercules Gate, the Stadium and the Temple of Hadrian are just a few of the impressive remains.

Day 4
Santorini, Islands of the Cyclades, Greece

The island of Santorini is the remnant of a volcanic eruption, and views from the precipitous cliff-top towns of Fira and Oia are famous. Take a drink at sunset at one of the cafés on the caldera's edge and enjoy views of brightly-painted churches, steeply descending streets and the Mediterranean.

Day 5
Monemvasia, Greece

This old town sits on top of a high rock, connected to the Peloponnese mainland by a causeway. The pretty streets lead up to the 12th century Byzantine church of Aghia Sophia, and to the fortress which defended the enclave from assaults by Normans, Catalans and pirates.

Day 6
Zakinthos, Ionian Islands, Greece

This lush and green Ionian island has many fine beaches, including the famed Navagio Bay where the shipwrecked hulk of the Panagiotis has laid since the 1980's. Zakinthos and the offshore islet of Marathonisi are nesting sites for Caretta-Caretta turtles. Boats can be hired to see the Blue Caves near the village of Volimes.

Day 7
Corfu, Greece

Charming Corfu Old Town has many restaurants and shops, radiating out from Kapodistra and the elegant, colonnaded Liston building. Nearby are St Spiridon's church and Georgian mansions. Paleokastritsa has lovely beaches and rocky coves, and the village of Gastouri is where the neo-classical palace of Achilleion was built for the Empress of Austria.

Day 8
Kotor, Montenegro

This lovely medieval town has an idyllic situation at the end of the Bay of Kotorska, backed by woods and Mount Lovcen. Kotor is a World Heritage Site, and its squares, alleys and waterfront are graced with 15th century Venetian buildings. The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon and the fortress of St Ivan are worthy of a visit.

Day 9
Dubrovnik, Croatia

Entering by the grand Pile Gate, the broad, marble-paved Stradun of Dubrovnik leads to the lovely old custom house, Sponza Palace, and the Franciscan Monastery. The monastery houses a pharmacy which has been in use since 1316. After walking the city walls, perhaps take refreshments in one of the cafés overlooking the bay.

Day 10
Venice, Italy

Seven Seas Voyager ends this cruise through the Mediterranean with a full day in Venice. Graceful mansions and quiet squares can be found away from the crowds, and for superb views of St Mark's and the piazza, take the elevator to the top of the Campanile. Murano Island is the place to go to buy colourful glassware, and a tour of the Doge's Palace includes a walk across the Bridge of Sighs.

Day 11
Venice, Italy

Disembark Seven Seas Voyager.
