Cruise through the southernmost region of the world - the
dramatic pristine wilderness of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego,
on the Mare Australis or the Via Australis, the only cruise
ships to offer an itinerary of this nature, reaching remote
channels and islands virtually untouched by man.

Your holiday starts and finishes with a stay in Santiago,
the capital of Chile, and includes three nights in the Torres
del Paine National Park, home to spectacular scenery, a paradise
fo flora and fauna, and habitat of the Andean condor.

Your cruise voyage takes you through channels, bays, fjords,
and past glaciers, snow-capped mountains, islands and unexplored
forests of great beauty. You will be accompanied by penguins,
elephant seals and sea lions.
Experience exciting adventures all the way to fabled Cape
Horn, the point where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet.

Shore excursions are taken in zodiacs (motorised dinghies),
in the company of expert naturalist guides. Rubber boots and
waterproof overalls are provided for each passenger.

Saturday UK departures using Mare Australis
from Punto Arenas to Ushuaia

|
Leave London Heathrow in the
evening by the LAN/British Airways codeshare flight to
Madrid, connecting with the onward non-stop flight by
LAN to Santiago. |
DAY 2
|
Arrive in
the morning. You will be met by our representative who
will take you to the centrally-located Plaza San Francisco
Hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. |
| DAY 3 |
At leisure in Santiago. You
may wish to explore the city, tour, including the excellent
Museum of Pre-Columbian Art, or perhaps take an optional
excursion to the picturesque port of Valparaiso, including
lunch at the Pacific Ocean resort of Viña del Mar.
Within easy reach of the capital there are also several
excellent wineries that you can visit, with wine-tasting.

Fly to Punta Arenas in Patagonia
and drive to Puerto Natales for overnight at the Hotel
CostAustralis overlooking Last Hope Sound. We have reserved
sea-view rooms for you.

Drive to Torres del Paine National
Park for 3 days in this beautiful area. Torres del Paine
is undoubtedly South America’s finest and most spectacular
national park, a paradise of flora and fauna, home to
the Andean condor. Designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve,
this superb wilderness destination offers towering snow-capped
granite peaks, turquoise lakes, thundering waterfalls
and ice-blue glaciers.Your stay is at the Hosteria Las
Torres. For the more energetic, there is an excellent
walk from your hotel to the foot of the dramatic granite
towers (torres) from which the park takes its name.

| DAY 8 |
Drive back to Punta Arenas
to board the Mare Australis in the late afternoon. Your
4 night cruise through some of the finest scenery in the
world begins with a welcome cocktail and an introduction
to the captain and his crew.

Disembark at Ainsworth Bay
to enjoy the sight of the Marinelli Glacier in the distance
as you visit a colony of elephant seals, followed by a
fascinating guided walk through the Magellan Forest. Later
in the day disembark for another gentle walk close to
the Brookes Glacier .

Morning excursion to view the
sheer ice wall of the Pia Glacier, the zodiacs negotiating
floating blocks of ice that have broken off the glacier.
The Mare Australis then sails through the Beagle Channel
past the snow-peaks of the Darwin Range and the spectacular
stretch known as ‘Glacier Alley’.

A highlight today as you disembark
at Cape Horn (Argentina),where the Atlantic and Pacific
Oceans converge. Continue to Puerto Williams (back in
Chile), the southernmost town in the world, where you
will spend some time ashore.

This morning we disembark at Ushuaia, Argentina,
the southernmost city in the world! You will have free
time in Ushuaia before your return flight in the afternoon
to Santiago. Overnight at the Plaza San Francisco Hotel.

ice that have broken off the glacier.

There will be a gentle hike

A visit is made this morning
to Magdalena Island, hometo an immense colony of Magellanic
penguins. You will walk on the island to visit a historic
lighthouse. In the late morning disembark in Punta Arenas
and transfer to Puerto Natales for overnight at the Hotel
CostAustralis overlooking Last Hope Sound.
