The Realm of the King Penguin Itinerary

Day 1 - Buenos Aires (Argentina) - Ushuaia

Individual travel arrangements to Buenos Aires. Take a charter flight to Ushuaia and embark Hanseatic.

Days 2-3 - Drake Passage

Enjoy the ship's facilities whilst cruising through the breathtaking Drake Passage, one of the world's greatest seaways connecting the waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Days 4-9 - South Shetland Islands - Antarctic Peninsula - South Orkney Islands

The South Shetland Islands are Antarctica's largest archipelago. After having to abandon their ship, Shackleton and his crew spent a harsh winter on the rugged Elephant Island. It may be possible to visit here as well as Half Moon Island, before Hanseatic cruises directly into the flooded caldera of an extinct volcano on Deception Island, an unforgettable experience. Hanseatic then heads to the Antarctic Peninsula and surrounding islands. Set foot on the Antarctic mainland at Paradise Bay. Imposing glacier cliffs tower hundreds of metres above the sea, icebergs the size of houses drift past and gentoo penguins stretch as far as the eye can see. Discover the impressive glacier cliffs of Neko Harbour, navigate the Lemaire Channel and visit Port Lockroy, the former British research station. Enjoy unique close encounters with Adelie penguins, fur seals and petrels on exciting Zodiac landings. Gain an insight into the everyday lives of polar researchers on a visit to the Argentinian Orcadas research station (weather and authorisation permitting).

Day 10 - At sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities on a relaxing day at sea.

Days 11-13 - South Georgia

Stand in front of a gigantic colony of king penguins, observe the sleeping seals on Gold Harbour beach and visit the grave of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton in Grytviken.

Days 14-18 - At sea

Enjoy the ship's facilities on relaxing days at sea.

Day 19 - Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)
