The Great Adventure Itinerary
Day 1 - Buenos Aires (Argentina) - Ushuaia (Argentina)
Take a charter flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. Transfer to the port and embark Le Soleal or spend free time at the Arakur Resort. An optional excursion to the Tierra del Fuego National Park is available.
Days 2-3 - At Sea - Drake Passage
Le Soleal cruises the legendary Drake Passage en route to Antarctica, the White Continent.
Day 4 - Neko Bay (Antarctica) - Paradise Bay
Neko Bay is one of the most beautiful sites in the Antarctic peninsula with mountains, snow and ice creating a unique landscape. Observe colonies of penguins on the shore and Antarctic terns flying overhead. Continue to the calm waters of Paradise Bay, home to penguins, seals and whales.
Day 5 - Port Lockroy - Whilhelmina Bay
Port Lockroy was discovered by the French explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot in 1903. Today, it is home to the United Kingdom Heritage Trust Station. Admire the spectacular scenery, before Le Soleal heads to Whilhelmina Bay, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Keep an eye out for humpback whales and crabeater seals.
Day 6 - Deception Island
Deception Island is nestled in the north of the Antarctic Peninsula and offers volcanic beaches and remains of abandoned huts. It was once an important whaling port and refuge where sailors could wait for storms to pass. The island is home to one of the largest colonies of chinstrap penguins in the Antarctic Peninsula.
Days 7-8 - At sea
Enjoy the facilities on board during a couple of days at sea.
Day 9 - Cooper Bay (South Georgia) - Gold Harbour
Cooper Bay located at the entrance of Drygalski Fjord was discovered by explorer James Cook and is home to a variety of wildlife, including sea birds and penguins. Continue to Gold Harbour with its spectacular glaciers, volcanic black beaches and cascading waterfalls. Keep an eye out for fur seals and colonies of king penguins basking on the beaches.
Day 10 - Grytviken
Go back in time and discover the Norwegian whaling industry in the early 20th century during a call at Grytviken. Visit the museum devoted to the history of South Georgia and the beautiful church.
Day 11 - Fortuna Bay
Fortuna Bay is at the foot of the Breakwind Ridge Mountains. Cliffs plunge into the frozen sea while the surrounding plains are covered in grassland. Retrace the steps of explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton who visited the bay during his famous Antarctic expedition and meet the colonies of king penguins.
Days 12-15 - At sea
Le Soleal spends four days at sea en route to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.
Day 16 - Montevideo (Uruguay)
Disembark Le Soleal in Montevideo.
Due to the exceptional nature of this itinerary, the ports of call listed are only a guide. The final route will be confirmed by the captain. His decision will be based on advice from expert pilots who are present on board during the cruise. Zodiac landings depend on the weather conditions, ice and wind.
