Explore South Georgia’s fantastic wildlife breeding beaches which are home to hundreds of thousands of king penguins, as well as macaroni penguins, elephant seals, fur seals and giant petrels.

Sail across the ocean towards Tristan da Cunha, a volcanic archipelago scattered off the South-African coast before arriving at Cape Town. Home to soaring Table Mountain, infamous Robben Island and the magnificent Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, it is easy to see why the city is classed as one of the world’s most beautiful destinations.

From Antarctica to Africa Itinerary

Day 1 - Buenos Aires (Argentina) – Ushuaia

Fly from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. Transfer to the port or take the optional excursion to Tierra del Fuego National Park. Embark Le Lyrial.

Day 2 - At sea

Enjoy the ship’s facilities on a relaxing day at sea.

Day 3 - New Island (Falkland Islands) – Grave Cove

Sail to New Island and Grave Cove in the Falkland Islands. These faraway lands have become the last sanctuary of the elegant black-browed albatross, which glides gracefully through the air against the blue sky, while Southern rockhopper penguins and elephant seals bask on the shore.

Day 4 - Saunders – Steeple Jason Island

Saunders Island was the original British settlement in 1765, and offers unique up-close opportunities to see diverse wildlife as well as wonderful hiking opportunities. Steeple Jason Island is one of the most dramatic islands in the archipelago and is home to the world’s largest black-browed albatross colony. Large numbers of striated caracara, Falkland skuas and southern giant petrels also breed here. Please note: On the 2019 departure, Steeple Jason island is visited first, then Saunders Island.

Days 5-6 - At sea

Enjoy the ship’s facilities on relaxing days at sea.

Day 7 - Salisbury Plain (South Georgia) - Fortuna Bay - Stromness

Salisbury Plain is home to between 60-100,000 pairs of King Penguin, whilst Fortuna Bay’s spectacular setting hosts a slightly smaller King Penguin colony. Enjoy the magical sensation of being surrounded by so much life amidst such a wild and scenic landscape. Please note: On the 2019 departure, you'll also visit Stromness, where Sir Ernest Shackleton found the help he needed to rescue his crew who were stranded on Elephant Island.

Day 8 - St Andrews – Grytviken

Unforgettable St. Andrew's Bay has hundreds of thousands of king penguins and thousands of elephant seals and fur seals occupying the sands along the water. Travel back in time in Grytviken and discover the Norwegian whaling industry in the early 20th century. Perhaps visit the museum devoted to the history of South Georgia, or the charming church that watches over the tranquil setting.

Day 9 - Gold Harbour - Cooper Bay

Gold Harbour's landscape ranges from majestic blue-tinged glaciers to beaches with black volcanic sands. Wildlife ranges from fur seals and elephant seals to colonies of king penguins. Sail to Cooper Bay to see one of the island's most accessible macaroni penguin colonies.

Days 10-13 - At sea

Enjoy the ship’s facilities on relaxing days at sea.

Day 14 - Tristan da Cunha (British Overseas Territories)

This small British archipelago is made up of several islands scattered off the South-African coast, most of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Discover the archipelago’s volcanic main island, home to the world's most isolated village.

Day 15 - Nightingale Island

Discover uninhabited Nightingale Island’s thousands of seabirds. Breeding species include the Wandering, the Yellow-nosed and the Sooty Albatross.

Day 16 - Gough Island

Gough Island’s spectacular sea cliffs are home to numerous colonies of sea birds.

Days 17-20 - At sea

Enjoy the ship’s facilities on relaxing days at sea.

Day 21 - Cape Town (South Africa)

Home to soaring Table Mountain, golden beaches and bountiful vineyards, Cape Town is one of the world’s most beautiful destinations. Admire the stunning scenery of the Cape of Good Hope or perhaps visit the magnificent Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Please note: On the 2019 departure, Le Lyrial navigates the Cape of Good Hope before arriving in Cape Town.

Day 22 - Cape Town

Disembark Le Lyrial in Cape Town.

For navigational reasons the Captain of the ship reserves the right to modify the cruise itinerary.
