Antarctica Land of Extremes Itinerary
Day 1 - Buenos Aires (Argentina) - Ushuaia (Argentina)
Take a charter flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia and embark your luxurious expedition ship. Ushuaia is regarded as the world's southern-most city and the capital of Tierra del Fuego. It is surrounded by mountains and the Tierra del Fuego National Park, which is rich in flora and fauna - beavers, albatross and penguins.
Days 2-3 - At Sea
To reach the magnificent White Continent we cross the famous Drake Passage named afer the famous explorer, Sir Frances Drake, who sailed in these waters in 1578. We then traverse the Polar Front which marks the area where waters from the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans meet.
Day 4 - Neko (Antarctica) - Paradise Bay (Antarctica)
At the end of Andvord Bay is a truly heavenly spot at the foot of a vast glacier; Neko Bay is without doubt one of most beautiful sites on the Antarctic Peninsula. It was discovered by the Belgian explorer Gerlache, during his Antarctic expedition from 1897. Mountains, snow, ice and nature in the wild combine to offer a unique landscape. The wildlife here is as abundant as it is exceptional, with gulls, Cape petrels and cormorants, as well as sea mammals such as seals, orcas and whales. Zodiac excursions bring you into the closest contact with the icebergs, or take you into the heart of the penguin colonies, or to observe a sea elephant lounging on the shore as the Antarctic terns wheel about overhead.
Day 5 - Pleneau Island (Antarctica) - Port Charcot (Antarctica)
South of the Lemaire Channel, Pleneau Island is the site of a large colony of gentoo penguins. We may be lucky enough to spot leopard seals, which hunt the gentoo.
Day 6 - Port Lockroy (Antarctica)
Port Lockroy on the small island of Goudier was discovered by the French explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot in 1903. Today, it is home to the United Kingdom Heritage Trust Station, an area surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery and one of the most visited destinations in the Antarctic.
Day 7 - Deception Island (Antarctica) - Half Moon Island
Deception Island is nestled at the heart of the South Shetland Islands. Landing by zodiac, we will see the largest colony of Chinstrap Penguins in the Antarctic Peninsula. The island is volcanic and has an interesting flooded caldera which opens to the sea. On departures up to Feb 2018, you will then cruise to Half Moon Island in the heart of the South Shetland archipelago. Argentina's former geopolitical base is situated in the centre of the island and offers refuge for many animal species.
Day 8 - Cruising the Weddell Sea
See fur seals, penguin colonies, wandering albatross and giant petrels as you cruise the Weddell Sea.
Days 9-10 - At Sea
Relax and enjoy the luxurious facilities on board as we cross Drake Passage to Ushuaia.
Day 11 - Ushuaia (Argentina) - Buenos Aires (Argentina)
Disembark in Ushuaia and transfer to the airport for your charter flight to Buenos Aires.
Due to the exceptional nature of this itinerary, the ports of call listed are only a guide. The final route will be confirmed by the captain. His decision will be based on advice from expert pilots who are present on board during the cruise. Zodiac landings depend on the weather conditions, ice and wind.
