Antarctica and the Chilean Fjords Special Offer

Follow in the footsteps of famous explorers on this once-in-a-lifetime expedition taking in the spectacular Chilean fjords, unique wildlife of Antarctica and contrasting Falkland Islands.

See the sights of Chile's lively capital, Santiago, during an overnight hotel stay, before flying to Punta Arenas to embark brand new expedition ship, Roald Amundsen. Admire breathtaking scenery as you cruise the Chilean fjords, an unspoiled landscape teeming with wildlife, and weather permitting, take the opportunity to go ashore at Cape Horn.

Spend seven days exploring the vast white landscapes of Antarctica. Possible landings include picturesque Deception Island, once a major harbour for whaling ships, Cuverville Island, home to a large colony of Chinstrap penguins, and Brown Bluff with its soaring cliffs. During these special landings, you'll have the chance to join guided hikes led by the experienced expedition team, and kayak past majestic icebergs.

Roald Amundsen leaves the White Continent behind and sets sail for the Falkland Islands. The capital, Stanley, is very British with its red phone boxes and English pubs. Explore at leisure or perhaps join the excursion which showcases the vast wilderness and wildlife of the surrounding areas. Rejoin the ship and cruise the Magellan Strait before arriving back in Punta Arenas.

Antarctica and the Chilean Fjords Itinerary

Day 1 - Santiago (Chile)

Santiago is the diverse capital of Chile and gateway to the breathtaking Andean glaciers. The city has a lot to offer, from spectacular colonial architecture to tranquil parks and bohemian quarters. Enjoy an overnight hotel stay.

Day 2 - Santiago - Punta Arenas

Check-out of the hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight to Punta Arenas, where you'll embark your expedition ship, Roald Amundsen.

Day 3 - Chilean Fjords

Roald Amundsen cruises through the Beagle Channel surrounded by magnificent fjords and soaring mountains. This area is unspoiled and the ice has carved its way between the mountains leaving small islands and hidden bays. The fjords of Chile are truely breathtaking.

Days 4-5 - Cape Horn - Drake Passage

Cape Horn is located at the southernmost tip of South America and is most of the most iconic places in the world. Prior to the Panama Canal, sailors had to navigate Cape Horn to cross from one side of the Americas to the other. Dependent on conditions, you may have the opportunity to step ashore on Cape Horn, which will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The ship then continues through the famous Drake Passage en route to Antarctica.

Days 6-12 - Antarctica

Around 90% of the world's ice can be found in Antarctica, known as the White Continent. In summer, Antarctica is a breeding ground for various species of penguins, seals and whales who for the remainder of the year will spend time out at sea. During your time here, you'll be able to step ashore and explore, kayak in the icy waters and join guided hikes led by the experienced expedition team. Potential landings include Deception Island, Brown Bluff, Half Moon Island and Neko Bar, all of which are serene, offer breathtaking scenery and are home to colonies of penguins and seals.

Day 13 - At sea

Roald Amundsen leaves Antarctica behind and sets sail for the remote Falkland Islands. Enjoy fascinating onboard lectures during a day at sea.

Days 14-16 - Falkland Islands

The beautiful town of Stanley is the capital of the Falkland Islands and is very British, with the classic red phone boxes and English pubs. Explore at leisure or join an excursion to see the wildlife in the surrounding areas. The westernmost outposts are home to traditional farms which have been in families for generations. You'll also find colonies of albatross and rockhopper penguins. You may have the opportunity to step ashore on Carcass Island, home to thousands of species of birds including geese, caracaras and wrens.

Day 17 - Magellan Strait

As you cruise the Magellan Strait, take the opportunity to reflect on this once-in-a-lifetime voyage.

Day 18 - Punta Arenas - Santiago

Disembark in Punta Arenas and transfer to the airport for your return flight to Santiago.

Due to the nature of this voyage, the itinerary is subject to change. In addition, all planned landings are subject to weather and ice conditions.
