The Amazon is home to the richest variety of life on the planet. The vast tropical rainforest of Brazil is a treasure trove of extraordinary plants and animals, many yet to be discovered. The Amazon River drains a massive area of South America, spilling more water into the oceans than the next six largest rivers put together.
This vast river system can be navigated by large ocean ships up to Manaus in northern Brazil, whereas smaller, more intrepid vessels are needed to explore the tropical wilderness further upstream.
Our exceptional 8 day voyage on the 18-passenger MY Tucano is distinctively different from all other cruises in the Amazon. As a true ‘expedition cruise’ we go far into the heart of the forest and witness the exotic wildlife that remain hidden to other visitors.
Beginning at Manaus, where the light-coloured Amazon River flows side by side with the dark, clear waters of Rio Negro, we navigate upriver on board the Tucano into unexplored territory. Our elegant craft is designed for observing wildlife in comfort with a large semi-shaded observation deck, expedition launch boats and powerful spotlights for nocturnal viewing.
Despite the great length of the Rio Negro, there are only a few small settlements large enough to be considered towns. Beyond the tangle of vines and limbs along the riverbanks are hundreds of thousands of square miles of primitive forest where the forces that have shaped plant and animal evolution continue as they have for millions of years. Our voyage to the heart of the Amazon explores this remarkable region.
